Oddly Acquainted

The aim of the ODDLY acquainted project is to utilize the intricacies of voyeurism to create an enlightening, positive human experience. A voyeur is one who obsessively observes sordid or sensational subjects usually from a secret vantage point. The vantage point in this case belongs to the realm of the elevator. The elevator is a short-lived, liminal public/private moving compartment which is laden with cross-cultural psychological issues.

The 2003 ODDLY acquainted project links two elevators visually via a live feed which expands the continuous shifts from private to public. This experience will endeavor to make connections among people that are demographically apart, which will also challenge our cultural perceptions in the midst of a brief, strange encounter. with Amanda Gyllstrom
